Project 524

Yiangou Architects were the lead design consultants for a complex local authority project for the complete redesign of the Corinium Museum. Cirencester was an important early-Roman area and therefore boasts a wealth of archaeological evidence and artefacts. The Corinium Museum cares for many of these artefacts and makes them accessible to the public.

The project was Heritage Lottery Funded and provided an exhibition space, a lecture theatre for school visits and a new gift shop, as well as the redesign of the museum space itself.
The construction had to be very carefully planned and executed to suit both the above and below ground archaeology. Many of the Roman mosaics had to be protected in situ whilst major building work was carried out around them.
